A former official of Israel’s Defense Ministry disclosed yesterday that West Germany had made a gift to Israel of $500 million worth of arms. Shimon Peres, who was the ministry’s director-general and is now deputy secretary general of the Israel Labor Party, spoke at a party meeting in Ashdod. He did not elaborate on the German gift nor did he say when the arms were received. Mr. Peres made the disclosure in the course of remarks on France’s recent embargo on military equipment and spare parts to Israel.
