Declaring that Egyptian President Sadat has “reached the point of no return in his bellicosity.” Shimon Peres, Israel’s Minister of Transportation and Communications told the leadership of the American Zionist Federation that “he will probably be forced to bow to the demands of his generals and that the threat of war in the next year is very great.”
Speaking at a luncheon of 50 Zionist leaders, prior to his return yesterday to Israel, Peres said that despite Israel’s serious economic situation “time is on Israel’s side and each month that passes sees a stronger Israel.” He noted that Israel’s economy is complicated by the fact that 30 percent of its manpower is devoted to defense activities.
