Israel is not yet finished with its “period of heroism, ” Abba Eban, Israel’s Minister of Education and Culture, warned here today. “A glance at the map, ” he cautioned, “will show that the region’s entry into the ballistic era bodes ill to Israel.”
Mr. Eban was one of the principal speakers here at the annual conference of the French section of Keren Hayesod, the fund-raising arm of the World Zionist Organization. The conference, which closed tonight with an address by Mr. Eban, adopted a resolution calling upon the Jews of France to increase their financial interest in Israel.
In his warning, Mr. Eban told the conference: “Israel’s intellectual and technological superiority, which is counterbalanced by numerical and territorial inferiority, might get lost without a particular educational effort. Several Arab countries are beginning to understand the importance of educational advancement.”
