Persons Arrested in Israel in First Five Days of Anti-black Market Campaign

Polices headquarters here today announced that 207 persons have been arrested in the first five days of the nation-wide anti-black mar(##)t drive. Of this number, 185 have already been indicted, the announcement said, (##)ding that 10 tons of food and large quantities of various other goods have already (##)en confiscated from illicit boards.

Haifa port authorities who have been confiscating food parcels of immigrants (##) part of the anti-black market campaign were ordered by the government to halt the confiscations immediately. The unprecedented action had caused considerable bitter(##)ess among new arrivals and among members of the Haifa community.
