Marshal Henri Philippe Petain, while dictator of France, attempted to secure a list of all Jewish members of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies so that action might be taken against them, it was revealed at his trial here today.
Jules Jeaneney, a member of the Provisional Government, who was then President of the Senate, told the court that Petain had requested that he submit a list of all Jewish Senators. Eduard Herriot, who is now mayor of Lyon, and who was then president of the Chamber of Deputies, testified that the aged marshal had requested a similar list of Jewish deputies from him.
Police announced today the arrest of eleven persons on charges of secreting explosives for use in anti-Jewish and anti-Communist demonstrations. Among those arrested was Countess Marie Louise de Neuvill, who held an important post in the resistance movement.
It was learned today that the Ministry of the Interior is contemplating issuing a decree placing all non-French deportees who enter France illegally into camps and labor squads. Up to now, such immigrants have been given special permits entitling them to seek employment.
