“The phenomenal growth of Orthodox Yeshivas and all-day schools throughout the United States is an indication of the growing desire by American Jews for a genuine, uncompromising Judaism,” Rabbi Morris Sherer, executive vice-president of Agudas Israel, today told the 28th national convention of the organization here.
Rabbi Elijah M. Bloch, a member of the group’s prassidium, called for the adoption of the Torah as the Constitution of Israel. However, since it is not possible to obtain a majority of the Knesset to agree to this proposition, Rabbi Bloch said, it would be better to adopt no Constitution and avoid the possibility of a Constitution contrary to the Torah.
