Philadelphia 1965 Allied Jewish Campaign Closes; $4,528,657 Raised

The Federation of Jewish Agencies 1965 Allied Jewish Appeal closed last night with a goal-breaking total of $4,528,657. The figure was announced by general chairman Jack F. Adler at the campaign’s closing dinner attended by more than 300 community and campaign leaders at the Warwick Hotel. The campaign’s goal was $4,513,600.

Mr. Adler was presented with a silver general chairman’s medal by Judge Nochem S. Winnet, Federation president, who termed his leadership of the campaign “inspiring and devoted.” Samuel Melnick, campaign director, paid tribute to the leadership and the volunteers for “inspired efforts.” Judge Winnet announced that Sylvan M. Cohen, attorney and financier who served as advance gifts chairman of the 1965 drive, has been appointed general chairman for the 1965 campaign.

Donald B. Hurwitz, executive director of the Federation, said he rejoiced at the achievement of the 1965 AJA and stressed that the work must go on so that the agencies depending upon it may continue their vital operations. A Medal of Meritorious Achivement was presented to Samuel H. Daroff, a national honorary chairman of the United Jewish Appeal. An award also was presented to Leonard Gold fine, AJA immediate past general chairman.
