The 1956 Allied Jewish Appeal has so far raised $4,021,164, or $200,000 more than was contributed during all of 1955, it was announced by Harry S. Sylk, general chairman of this year’s drive.
Mr. Sylk said, too, that the drive will be kept open for the Special Emergency Fund for North African Jewish immigration to Israel until every prospect has been contacted, and for the $380,212 still outstanding from last year’s pledges. Appointment of Alex F. Stanton, Philadelphia communal leader, as general chairman of the 1957 campaign was announced by Myer Feinstein, AJA president.
