The Philadelphia Jewish Community Relations Council announced today the establishment of a Conciliation and Arbitration Board to provide without charge, arbitration services in disputes between Jewish individuals and between Jewish organizations.
Murray H. Shusterman, JCRC president, said that in recent years newspapers had reported cases affecting “the good name and reputation” of Jewish organizations and individuals in cases involving issues “completely out of place if tried in the public courts.” The conciliation board, he stated, “will help provide dignity within the Jewish community in protecting the good name of Jews and Jewish organizations.”
Jules Cohen, JCRC executive director, who is secretary of the board, said that the board will not offer its services in commercial disputes or in divorce cases just because the parties are Jewish. He explained that disputes involving individuals only among themselves will not come within the scope of the projected work of the board.
