A total of $1,657,250, was contributed by 16,402 persons in the campaign of the Philadelphia Federation of Jewish Charities which sought to raise $1,600,000 for its maintenance fund. The campaign was launched ten days ago.
Cheers and applause greeted the announcement by Louis Wolf, Chairman of the drive at a luncheon of the 1,000 workers in the Benjamin Franklin Hotel.
“At the start of the drive we were forced to destroy $60,000 worth of cards and to list more than $80,000 in reductions in our assessments.” he said. “In addition to these, we also lost $45,000 which was contributed last year in memory of our friend and patron. Jules E Masthaum.”
