The Federation of Jewish Agencies today announced allocation of a record-breaking $2,545,262 for the support of its local health and welfare agencies for the 1967-68 fiscal year starting June 1. The announcement was made by Frank L. Newburger, Jr., Federation president, following approval of the budget by the board of trustees.
The budget was recommended to the board by the budget committee, Fred Wolf, Jr., chairman, and Robert H. Fleisher, vice-chairman, after extensive studies and hearings during the past three months. However, the budget report pointed out, “the gap between minimum needs and available funds at several of our agencies remains very significant. This gap can be closed only by our fullest support of the United Fund, Thrift Shop, the Endowment Fund and all other Federation resources.”
The amounts allocated by the budget committee covering the three major fields of service were: Family and Individual Services, $839,950; Leisure Time Services, $582,500; and Health and Institutional Services, $765,000. The largest part of the money — $2,224,850 — comes from last fall’s United Fund Torch Drive. This was the 35th year of the Federation’s partnership in the United Fund. The remainder of the funds come from the Thrift Shop, investment income and other sources.
