Almost $50,000 was raised last night at the opening here of the Emergency Campaign for Jewish work abroad which includes both the American Joint Distribution Committee, and the Jewish Agency for Palestine. Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver in an impassioned address described the conditions of the Jews in Germany as he had recently observed them. He pleaded for emphatic and continued protest against the Hitler madness and called upon American Jewry to help settle as many as the German victims in Palestine as possible. The original quota of $100,000 which was set by the community is expected to be exceeded. Samuel S. Fels donated $10,000. The campaign is expected to be completed within the week.
