Philadelphia will begin enforcement Sunday of the state’s Sunday closing law and Mayor James H.J. Tate warned yesterday that the city would not allow any exceptions.
He said that any store which dealt exclusively with merchandise banned for Sunday sale by the state’s 1959 law “is expected to be closed on Sunday. Other counties in Pennsylvania are enforcing the law. There is no reason why we should be an exception.” The state blue laws were recently sustained by the United States Supreme Court.
