Louis E. Levinthal of this city will head the annual campaign of the United Palestine Appeal which will open here May 12. Announcement of Mr. Levinthal’s appointment as chairman of the Philadelphia U. P. A. drive was made by Robert M. Bernstein, chairman of the Philadelphia committee, at a showing last night at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel of a film depicting the development of Palestine in recent years.
Although the quota for Philadelphia has not yet been set, it is expected that a sum in the neighborhood of $300,000 will be agreed upon by the chairman and his associates.
Mr. Levinthal is a member of the law firm of Monaghan, Levinthal. Schofield and Kraus, and is the son of Rabbi B. L. Levinthal.
Judge William M. Lewis, national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal, Mr. Bernstein and Mr. Levinthal were the speakers last night at the meeting in the grand ballroom of the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel. Approximately one thousand persons attended.
