The 1967 Allied Jewish Appeal topped its goal last night with a total of $4,813,760, announced Raymond G. Perelman, general chairman of the campaign. The drive, conducted by the Federation of Jewish Agencies of Greater Philadelphia, had as its goal $4,758,000. The total was announced at the drive’s closing dinner attended by more than 300 community and campaign leaders in the ballroom of the Warwick Hotel.
Mr. Perelman told the assemblage that he was “proud of the Jewish community of Philadelphia because of its response to the pleas for assistance to those who are less fortunate than we are and are in dire need.” He termed the topping of the goal “an action in the finest tradition of our faith to aid those in need.” Samuel Melnick is director of the campaign.
Frank L. Newburger, Jr., Federation president, presented Mr. Perelman with the Allied Jewish Appeal’s Great Medallion “in recognition of outstanding service to the Jewish community.” He announced that the 1968 campaign general chairman will be Philip S. Seltzer, who served as chairman of the Advanced Gifts division in the drive just ended.
