Philip Perlman, U.S. Solicitor General Under Truman, Dead; Was 70

Philip B. Perlman, Solicitor General of the United States during the administration of President Harry S. Truman, died here yesterday, apparently of a heart attack. He was 70 years of age. He was co-chairman of the Platform Committee of the recent Democratic National Convention.

Born in Baltimore, Mr. Perlman first worked as a journalist while earning his law degree at the University of Maryland. After serving in several state posts, he went into private law practice until 1947 when he was named Solicitor General. After resigning as Solicitor General in 1952, Mr. Perlman was appointed by President Truman to head the Commission on Immigration and Naturalization. For many years Mr. Perlman was a member of the Board of the Associated Jewish Charities in Baltimore.
