Residents of the greater Tel Aviv area were without full telephone service Thursday as a result of a dispute between the government-owned Bezek Telecommunications Corp. and workers striking for higher wages.
The Bezek management instituted what it called a “protective lock-out” and appealed to Histadrut, the labor federation, to intervene.
Histadrut said its trades unions department does not control all the striking employees and it doubted they would heed a back-to-work call.
Meanwhile, telephone subscribers were without the operator-manned overseas telephone report malfunctions or get repairs.
Direct dialing services and leased lines continued to operate, as long as there were no breakdowns requiring repairs.
