Dr. Nathan Ratnoff, medical director of Beth Israel Hospital, and Dr. Jacob J. Golub, executive director of the Hospital for Joint Diseases, sail on the “Berengeria” today for Palestine to select a site and draw up plans for the proposed Hadassah-University Hospital in Jerusalem.
The two physicians will make their recommendations at the request of Hadassah and the American Jewish Physicians’ Committee, sponsors of the new medical center. Dr. Golub is a member of the Hadassah medical reference board and Dr. Ratnoff is chairman of the American Jewish Physicians’ Committee.
A campaign to raise $200,000 for the building fund of the hospital is now in progress here under the chairmanship of Mrs. Edward Jacobs. The new institution will supplant the present Hadassah-Rothschild Hospital in Jerusalem, which is said to be inadequate to meet the hospitalization needs of the growing city. The new hospital will be connected with the Hebrew University as a research institute and a graduate school of medicine.
Dr. Ratnoff and Dr. Golub will inspect several sites in Jerusalem and its suburbs and, with the members of the site committee in Palestine, will select the one most suitable as a central hospital for Palestine.
