The local Zionist district, Hadassah and other Zionist groups celebrated the seventy-fifth birthday anniversary of Dr. Theodor Herzl at the Y. M. H. A. yesterday (Wednesday). Rabbi B. A.Lichter, president of the local Zionist district, and Mrs. J. H. Marcus, president of Hadassah, organized the celebration. The principal speaker was Rabbi G. A. Rose of Beth Shalom Congregation.
Final plans for the United Jewish Appeal to be held here May 19 to 29 were made at a dinner at the Concordia Club at which Leo Lehman, chairman of the drive, was host to several hundred volunteer workers. Pittsburgh’s quota has been set at $115,000.
On the eve of his departure for Palestine where he and his family will settle down, H. Leyton, secretary of the local Mizrachi Organization, was honored by members and friends at Adath Jeshurun Synagogue Tuesday night. Rabbi Wolf Gold, national president, and Rabbi A. M. Ashinsky were the chief speakers.
