As a birthday gift to Israel on the occasion of its second anniversary, checks totalling $750,000, representing advance cash contributions to the 1950 campaign of the United Jewish Appeal from more than 65 communities in the Tri-State area, were presented here yesterday to Henry Morgenthau, Jr., general chairman of the U.J.A.
Addressing the 800 leaders who assembled here at the annual conference of the Tri-State Region, Mr. Morgenthau pointed out that “the crisis Israel is facing in immigration, in doing the job that is as much our responsibility as here, is as grave as was the crisis of her war for survival.”
