In an expression of “support and solidarity for those Jews in the Soviet Union who are presently being harassed.” the National Conference on Soviet Jewry will have 68 persons–two from each of its 34 constituent organizations–stage a 24-hour vigil outside the Soviet Embassy in Washington, beginning tomorrow morning.
At the same time, a 36-hour hunger strike will be launched by Katya Palatnik, sister of Russian Jewish political prisoner Raiza Palatnik, and Prof. Michael Eppelman, whose wife and child are being denied permission to leave the USSR, The vigil and strike will be co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington. Tonight in the capital, NCSJ leaders will confer with Leonard Garment, special Presidential liaison to the Jewish community.
