A movement for the Dominion-wide organization of Canadian Jewish youth into an association with branches from coast to coast and headquarters in Montreal, was started at a meeting convened by Rabbi J. L. Zlotnik, and attended by representatives of various national Jewish groups, young people’s societies and other organizations. Rabbi Zlotnik, in outlining the scope of the proposed organization, stated that their aims would be the furtherance of the social, cultural, spiritual and physical activities of the Jewish youth in Canada. The need of such an organization is particularly felt in this country, where the small Jewish communities are scattered throughout the far-flung provinces. The formation of such an organization will tend to bind together the Canadian Jewish youth and develop an ambition to create in terms of Jewish life and art.
A Council was appointed to formulate plans and to bring them before the various Canadian Jewish communities. The Council appointed are: Mrs. S. Kahn, Miss Dorthy Freiman, of Ottawa. Miss Bertha Meyer, Miss Anne S. Lerner, Miss Toba Cohen, Miss M. Rafler and Messrs. Harvey Golden. Louis M. Dobrofsky, I. M. Konowitz. A. M. Klein, Reuben Spector. Bernard Figler. H. Silverstone and C. Rosengarten. Rabbi J. L. Zlotnik was appointed member ex-officio and Mr. I. M. Konowitz convenor of the Council.
