Leaders from all parts of the state attended an all day conference in Albany on Sunday, at the call of Judge Irving Lehman, president of the Jewish Welfare Board, for the purpose of reorganizing the New York State Federation of Y. M. and Y. W. H. A.’s and Jewish centers. In addressing the conference, Judge Lehman stressed the importance of leadership as the first step in providing an adequate program in behalf of Jewish youth.
Other speakers outlined the status of the various communities, and the specific needs in New York state for character building agencies of the Jewish center type. Plans were adopted for strengthening the smaller communities and supplying the lack of Jewish influences and leadership through the provision of educational programs by the state federation.
At the recommendation of Harry L. Glucksman, executive director of the Jewish Welfare Board, a resolution was adopted calling upon all local organizations to cooperate fully in all communal efforts to relieve the present unemployment problem. He pointed out the greater need for recreational facilities in times of stress, and the important part that Jewish centers could play in maintaining the morale at this time.
Mr. Glucksman announced that Dr. Philip R. Goldstein, director of campaigns of the Jewish Welfare Board, would also act as field secretary for the New York state federation.
