A testimonial performance for Bertha Kalich, veteran actress and singer, will be given at the Forty-fourth Street Theatre on Sunday evening, June 10, according to an announcement by Edgar Allen, who is directing the affair. A number of well-known artists, whose names will be announced later, have agreed to contribute their services for the occasion.
Mme, Kalich was born in Lemberg, at that time in Austria, and began her stage career as an opera singer. She came to New York in 1894 and appeared in many Yiddish plays. She made her debut in English at the American Theatre in 1905.
Dr. Henry Moskowitz and Herman Bernstein, editor of the Jewish Daily Bulletin, are associate chairmen of the committee in charge of the performance. Other members of the committee are Heywood Broun, Fannie Hurst, B. Charney Vladeck, Harry Hershfield, C. P. Greneker, Edgar Allen, Lep Solomon, S. J. Kaufman and David Ferguson.
