Planned Colonization Seen Aiding Alaska’s Development

Development of Alaska is now hampered by lack of manpower and capital, and “settlement properly planned and based upon adequate financing” might conceivably benefit the territory by development of new industries, Department of Interior experts reported to Secretary Harold L. Ickes today. The report was made after many inquiries had been received as to the possibilities of refugee colonization, but did not refer specifically to refugees.
