Plans for a united Jewish community program in Pittsfield were given impetus with the organization of a Jewish Community Council and the revival of the Jewish Community Chest which was originally launched two years ago. The campaign for funds to date has resulted in over $10,000 for the participating agencies.
Karpel Halperin was elected president of the Chest. An Executive Committee, representing the principal Jewish organizations of Pittsfield has also been chosen. The following local and national Jewish causes are participating in the joint fund this year: Pittsfield Hebrew School, Hebrew Alliance Building, Local and County Social Welfare. Jewish Travelers’ Aid, United Palestine Appeal. United Jewish Campaign. National Jewish Hospital.
Plans for a social. religious and educational survey of the Jewish community to be made under the direction of the Bureau of Jewish Social Research of New York City has been adopted.
