Plans to celebrate a national holiday next week to honor Latvian soldiers who died in World War II are a mistake, the country’s president said. Guntis Ulmanis made the comment after Latvian Jewish leaders said the March 16 holiday will focus on soldiers who fought for the Nazi cause. Ulmanis added that the holiday may be phased out next year.
