PLANS FOR THE COORDINATION OF ACTIVITIES ON BEHALF OF JEWISH ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL WELFARE THE WORLD OVER WERE DISCUSSED HERE AT A CONFERENCE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LARGEST JEWISH PHILANTHROPIC ORGANIZATIONS CONVENED BY THE COMITE D’ENTENTE OF NON-POLITICAL JEWISH ORGANIZATIONS.
THE CONFERENCE CONSIDERED THE PRESENT POSITION OF JEWS IN DANZIG AND FORMULATED CONCRETE PLANS FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION TO ITS AMELIORATION. IT ALSO CONSIDERED PROBLEMS OF JEWS IN GERMANY AND POLAND AS WELL AS GENERAL QUESTIONS AND POLICIES INVOLVED IN JEWISH COLONIZATION PROJECTS. PLANS WERE LAID FOR MORE INTENSIVE STUDY OF THE POSSIBILITIES FOR SETTLEMENT OF JEWS IN VARIOUS LANDS, AND THESE AND OTHER PROBLEMS WILL BE DISCUSSED AT A MEETING PLANNED FOR NEXT FEBRUARY.
THE CONFERENCE PAID TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF FELIX M. WARBURG, DECLARING THE COMITE D’ENTENTE HAD BEEN FORMED UNDER THE LATE NEW YORK PHILANTHROPIST’S INITIATIVE. ORGANIZATIONS REPRESENTED AT THE MEETING INCLUDED THE AGRO-JOINT, THE JOINT FOUNDATION, THE EMICA, THE HIAS-ICA EMIGRATION ASSOCIATION (HICEM), THE HILFSVEREIN, THE JEWISH COLONIZATION ASSOCIATION, THE REICHSVERTRETUNG DER JUDEN IN DEUTSCHLAND AND THE REFUGEE ECONOMIC CORPORATION. AMONG THOSE PRESENT WERE DR. JAMES BERNSTEIN, DR. PAUL EPSTEIN, MAX GOTTSCHALK, DR. BERNHARD KAHN, NATHAN KATZ, LOUIS OUNGRE, DR. JOSEPH ROSEN, WERNER ROSENBERG AND DAVID J. SCHWEITZER.
