Measures to increase Israel’s exports to the United States, which amounted to $10, 000, 000 last year, were announced here today by the economic department of the Jewish Agency.
The plans now under way to increase the sale of Israel products In this country include the establishment of an advisory committee in the United States composed of experts in different fields to offer specific recommendations and guidance to Israel exporters with regard to merchandising, clearing and warehousing, designing and’ packaging, banking and financing, and similar matters. The members of the committee will also concentrate on finding additional outlets for Israel goods in the United States.
Another project is the initiation of market research by competent U.S. organizations to provide Israel manufacturers with vital information as to the marketability of products in America. The formation of the committee and arrangements for market research are expected to be completed within the next few weeks, the announcement said.
Felix Manor, director of the Israel Export Institute, recently revealed that the bulk of Israel’s exports to the United States were diamonds. He emphasized that exports of other manufactured items show “promising beginnings. ” Among these he listed raincoats, shoes, gift articles, knitted outerwear, chocolates, books and religious articles. He explained that canned fruits and vegetables, essential oils, aluminum and brass household ware, clocks and watches, could also be manufactured in Israel for export to the United States,
