RECTOR KULCZYNSKI OF LWOW UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCED TODAY “GHETTO BENCHES” WOULD NOT BE INTRODUCED, AFTER A MAJORITY OF THE STUDENTS HAD VOTED IN A PLEBISCITE TO OPPOSE THE SEGREGATION OF JEWS.

THE RECTOR DECLARED, HOWEVER, THAT HE THOUGHT IT IMPOSSIBLE TO ALLOW FULL FREEDOM IN THE CHOICE OF SEATS IN LECTURE ROOMS. HE APPEALED TO NATIONALIST STUDENTS TO SIT ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND JEWS ON THE LEFT SIDE, LEAVING TO OTHER STUDENTS FREEDOM OF CHOICE.

EMPHASIZING THAT HE REGARDED THIS AS THE ONLY WAY TO PRESERVE ORDER, THE RECTOR DECLARED THAT IF THE MEASURE WERE INEFFECTUAL HE WOULD CLOSE DOWN THE UNIVERSITY.
