Plenum of Thuringian State Parliament Decides Schechita Prohibition

The Plenum of the State Parliament of Thuringia has, by the united votes of the Nazis and the German National Agrarian League against those of the Social Democrats and the Communists, decided to put into force the prohibition of Schechita as from July 1st, 1933. In the meantime, Thuringia is to negotiate with Prussia and the rest of the German states, with a view to the introduction of a general prohibition of Schechita.

The Law prohibiting Schechita, provides for a penalty of six months’ imprisonment for infringement.

The Bill prohibiting Schechita, was passed by the Law Commission as recently as November 30th. On that occasion, no date was fixed for its enforcement as one of its provisions laid down that it was not to enter into effect until the neighboring states also decided to prohibit Schechita.
