The Jewish Social Democratic Labour Organization Poale Zion of Germany held a big gathering here yesterday to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the foundation of the Poale Zion movement and the tenth anniversary of the death of its founder Ber Borochov. The Socialist leader Deputy Edouard Bernstein, who has just attained his 78th birthday, delivered the principal address. He spoke of the place of the Poale Zion in the Zionist movement on the one hand and in the International Labour Movement on the other. It was too late now, he said, for him to attempt to live himself into this movement, because from his youth he had been fighting for German Social Democracy But he saw the justification of the Zionist Socialist conception, and he hoped that the Poale Zionists would always hold high the international ideal.
Herr Alfred Berger, the Chairman of the Poale Zion in Germany, said that they were all of them Bernstein’s pupils in the search for the road to the find goal of Socialism. They were grateful to him for his confession of faith.
Herr S. Rudel reviewed the history the Poale Zionist movement within the last twenty years, paying a tribute to the memory of its leader Borochov who has successfully created the synthesis between National and Social liberation.
The meeting sent greetings to the Poale Zionists in Russia who are persecuted by the G.P.U. and to the Palestinian workers who are building up the Jewish land and people.
Honorable James M. Beck, former United States Attorney General and now member of U. S. Congress will be the speaker at the final rally of the key men in the forth coming campaign of the Philadelphia Federation to take place next Monday evening at 6:30 p. m. at the Mercantile Club.
