Premier Skladkowski declared in Parliament today that the Government was acting to prevent anti-Jewish excesses. He addressed the Sejm (lower house) on the subject of social justice to all sections of the population.
In the same address, the Premier welcomed young peasants who enter the cities to engage in trade and artisanship.
Jewish members of Parliament interpreted this welcome as confirmation of Skladkowski’s former statement, made to a Jewish delegation, which had been regarded as supporting the economic campaign against Polish Jews.
Deputy Emil Sommerstein told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency the Government did not desire to do anything to solve the Jews’ plight but was eager to assist other sections of the population by positive measures.
Earlier, Senator Isaac Rubenstein charged in Parliament that police had been 46 Jews during student rioting in Wilno on Nov. 23. He submitted affidavits to support his charge. He declared that 96 Jews were injured in the disorders, demanding the Government protest the Jews and punish rioters.
