The conclusion of a reciprocal trade agreement between Poland and Israel was announced here today by Dr. L, Gruenstein, Israel’s commercial attache in Poland. Under the terms of the pact, Poland will export to Israel 2,000,000 wooden citrus crates in exchange for 30 percent payment in citrus products and 70 percent in British currency. Dr. Gruenstein also announced that 1,000 tons of water and gas pipes purchased in Poland will be shipped to Israel soon.
The Polish freighter S.S. Kolobsheg sailed from Gdynia for Haifa today with a cargo of 3,000 tons of foodstuffs purchased in Poland. The cargo includes 2,000 tons of rye valued at $140,000 and the Polish Government has announced that the Israeli Government would be permitted to pay this sum from Jewish National Fund moneys raised in this country. The other 1,000 tons of food supplies were purchased by private Israeli merchants.
Another vessel, S.S. Opole, will leave for Israel next week with a cargo of 3,000 tons of foodstuffs consigned to commercial firms in the Jewish state.The cargo will consist chiefly of flour and potatoes.
