The Polish government sought unsuccessfully to virtually nullify the minority guarantees exacted from it by the League of Nations, according to Lucien Wolf, secretary of the Joint Foreign Committee of the Jewish Board of Daputies and the Anflo-Jewish Association.
Poland sought to obtain the League’s consent to a proposal that no organizations outside of Poland be allowed to intervene before the League regarding the minority rights within Poland.
The Council of the League, Mr. Wolf also announced, decided to table for the present the petition of the Joint Foreign Committee relative to the numerus clausus in Poland. In view of the failure of the Sejm to take any decisive action on the numerus clausus, the Council felt it would be premature to take any steps regarding it, Should the Sejm finally pass it, it will come up again for consideration.
Wolf announced that 1700 of the Jewish refugees of Bessarabia had left for the United States and that 2,000 more will leave in November. The Jewish refugees are all out of Poland, he said, and as soon as Russian conditions are normal, the refugee problem will be solved.
