Cardinal Joseph Glemp, the Primate of Poland, assured a delegation of the Canadian Jewish Congress that there are no plans at this time to erect a Carmelite convent on the site of the former Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland.
In a meeting here Friday with the delegation, the Cardinal said that he had received letters from the World Jewish Congress and other groups regarding their deep concern over the reported plans to erect the convent. He said that he opposes the plan and that he understands the concern of the Jewish community.
