Irving Weitzmann, wealthy South Side baker, was arrested here today as a suspect in the murder of Eli Daiches, prominent advertising man whose body was riddled with machine gun bullets last March 3. Weitzmann is a brother of Louis J. Weitzmann, chief beneficiary of Daiches’ loan insurance.
Developments indicated that the slaying will be solved soon, police declared. In addition to Weitzmann three others are in custody, one of whom, investigators reported today, is “ready to talk.”
Arrest of a fifth suspect, now being sought, will give them a complete case, officials declared.
Daiches was mysteriously killed here last Spring while his wife, Mrs. Belle Daiches, was in Palestine.
The advertising man, president of the Thomas Bowers Agency was the son of Rabbi Israel Hyman Daiches, patriarchal senior rabbi of Leeds, England. Numerous Jewish philanthropies and educational institutions received bequests under his will.
