A peaceful demonstration by about 60 Jewish and Israeli high school students in front of the Soviet Embassy was broken up by West German police today after the Russian political attache, A. J. Bogomlov, asked them to “liquidate this swinish action of anti-Soviet provocation.” The youngsters carried placards protesting the treatment of Soviet Jews and upholding their right to emigrate to Israel. They tried to deliver a letter to the Embassy listing examples of alleged discrimination and indignities suffered by Jews in the USSR. The letter demanded the right of emigration, the right for Soviet Jews to practice their culture and speak their own language and the right for them to assimilate fully if they so desire. Asked by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency if the letter was passed on to the Soviet Ambassador, Mr. Bogomlov replied, “We did not accept it.”
