Thirty New York policemen searched the Israel Consulate here for nearly an hour yesterday after an anonymous telephone caller threatened to “blow up” the building. No bombs were found and the 50 employees of the Consulate who had been evacuated after the threat was received, shortly after noon, returned to their desks.
Police officials gave two versions of the threat. One was: “This is underground America. Your consulate will be blown up within an hour. ” The second version was: “This is the American branch of the religious underground of Israel. You’re in danger. Your place will be blown up within the hour. “
