Large police detachments guarded a rally of 5,000 Fascists in the East End’s Victoria Park tonight while Sir Oswald Mosley, their leader, inveighed against “the corrupt influence of international Jewish finance.”
Mosley, head of the British Union of Fascists, charged that Conservatives were allied with Socialists and Communists to fight against Fascism.
The whole East End was under heavy guard as the Blackshirt leader rallied his followers at Victoria Park to march to Limehouse for a second mass meeting. The second rally passed off quietly and police conducted the Fascists away from the neighborhood after it had concluded.
The British Cabinet, discussing methods of curbing disorders in the Jewish East End at a meeting earlier in the day, considered reports by Sir John Simon, Home Secretary, and Sir Philip Game, London Police Commissioner.
Banning of political uniforms was reported to have been discussed, but no decision was announced. The ministers were understood to be hesitant at taking drastic action for fear of infringing on free speech.
