Police were investigating today the possibility that an outsider lit a sulphur candle in the basement of Yeshivath Torah Vodaath and Mesivta School in Brooklyn yesterday afternoon.

The noxious fumes caused school authorities to evacuate some 600 boys from the building and 23 pupils between eight and 13 years of age were treated at a hospital for eye and respiratory irritations. The building was aired out for an hour after which the pupils who had not required medical attention returned to classrooms. The 23 were sent home.
