Police statistics released this week indicated that in 1994 more people were killed in terrorist attacks inside Israel than in the territories.
In 1994, 69 people within Israel’s borders were killed in terror attacks; in 1993, 19 were killed within Israel.
At a press conference in Jerusalem, Police Commissioner Assaf Hefetz said suicide bombing attacks were the main reason for the increase in attacks.
The annual report also noted that criminal violence rose by 8 percent over 1993. More than 140 people were murdered in 1994, which included 19 women being killed by their husbands.
Car thefts in 1994 rose by 11 percent over 1993. More than 25,000 cars were stolen last year-a rate one every 20 minutes.
