Police in the Bavarian town of Greebenzell have seized some 50 posters declaring that “Too Few Jews Have Been Killed,” it was reported here today.
The local police investigation, begun after the intervention of Bavarian Commissioner for Persecutees Phillip Auerbach, has revealed that the town’s mayor, ex-Nazi Richard Sturm, is implicated in the affair. Action by a denazification court is expected in his case.
British authorities in Hamburg announced during the week-end that Field Marshal Erich von Mannstein, who was charged with responsibility for carrying out mass executions of Jews in the Ukraine during the Nazi occupation, will serve only 12 years in prison instead of the 18 years to which he was sentenced last December. The trial of the German military commander attracted much attention in Germany.
Beginning next month, denazification activities will be drastically reduced in Bavaria as a result of an order closing the Bavarian Denazification Ministry. The liquidation of the Ministry became necessary because no funds for its work have been included in the ?utrent year’s budget. Its functions will be transferred to the Ministry of Justice, which will maintain a small office instead of the present staff of about 500 employees.
