The Government was reported today to have instructed police to arrest vagrant Hauranis and hold them for trial on charges of illegal entry unless they return to their country, across the Jordan northeast of Palestine.
Instructions not to employ Hauranis also were reportedly issued to the Public Works Department at the request of Arab workers.
(The Royal Commission recently was told by Eliahu Epstein, of the Agency’s executive, that in 1934-35 20,000 to 25,000 Hauranis illegal entered the country.)
