Policemen who have been occupying the Bavarian Restitution Office since the arrest of its former head, Dr. Philip Auerabach, several months ago, today withdrew although their investigation has not yet been completed, it was announced here by Bavarian police officials.
Meanwhile, the Association of Jewish Students here have protested halting of scholarship payments by the Restitution Office. Cutting off these funds during the investigation of the Restitution Office has interfered with the studies of the Jewish students.
In Cells, in Lower Saxony, it was established this week-end that eleven persons fraudulently entered claims and received payment of 77,000 Deutschemarks under the local compensation law. All eleven have since left the country.
Chancellor Konrad Adenauer today announced that the West German Government has reversed itself and now does not intend to promulgate a Federal restitition law. The reason for this reversal, he said, was that at a recent meeting of representatives of the various states in West Germany it was agreed that the various states would cooperate more and would accept each other’s types of restitution legislation in order to arrive at more uniform programs.
