A serious change in the internal policy in Roumania, which will affect the situation of the Jewish population, is expected to result from the formation of the new cabinet under General Alexander Averescu, leader of the People’s Party.
The selection of General Averescu by the King to form the new cabinet caused considerable surprise in the capital in view of the fact that Jules Maniu, leader of the nationalist party, Catholic from Transylvania, was ready to form the cabinet. The Liberal Party, it was reported, has promised its support to Averescu. N. Negulescu, formerly a member in the Roumanian cabinet, will hold the portfolio of the Minister of Education in the new cabinet, it was announced.
Excitement prevailed in the capital yesterday because of the trend of political events, making it necessary for troops to patrol the streets. Order was maintained throughout the day.
