The New York Herald Tribune reported from London today that the Cabinet at yesterday’s session had decided on a reversal of British policy to appease the Arabs and restore peace in pales tine.
Quoting authoritative Whitehall circles, the Tribune said the first step in carrying out the new policy would be abandonment of partition, in return for which the Arabs would be expected to end the rebellion. This would be followed by strengthening and expansion of the British administration in Palestine, with eventual establishment of a unified “independent” State under British supervision and with full protection for the rights of the Arab majority and the Jewish and Christian minorities. A third stage in the revised policy, according to the dispatch, would be either curtailment or elimination of Jewish immigration.
