Heartfelt thanks for the aid which the Joint Distribution Committee is sending to Polish refugees – Jewish and non-Jewish – in Soviet Russia was expressed today in a cable received by the JDC office here from a group of Polish refugees in Alma Ata, in Soviet Turkestan, where thousands of these refugees are concentrated.
The cable read: “Representatives of Polish citizens in the Alma Ata district, without distinction as to creed and origin, after hearing Minister Drohojowski report on your relief activity in behalf of Poles in the Soviet Union, send you assurances of their deepest gratitude for your incomparable generosity and effective help which greatly assists and inspires courage in wanderings far away from our fatherland.”
The “Minister Drohojowski” referred to in the cable is evidently Jan Drohojowski, who was attached to the Polish embassy in Washington until recently when he was appointed Polish charge d’affaires in Chungking, to where he is en route at present.
