Members of the polish anti-Semitic Endek party and of the Paderewski Party today indicated that they will oppose immediate action by the polish National Council on the bill introduced last week by the Jewish members of the Council requesting the polish president to issue a decree making anti-Jewish activities or propaganda a criminal offense.
All indications point, however, to the fact that the majority of the Council intends to demand quick action on the measure which also contains a proposal that after the bill is adopted, the polish Government take steps to achieve an international agreement for outlawing anti-Semitism all over the world.
The Jewish Socialist member of the Council, Dr. Emanuel Szerer, went on record yesterday as voting against additional credits for the polish cabinet. He emphasized that his vote of non-confidence was directed against the polish War Minister Gen. Kukiel, whose statement, he declared, during the general debate on anti-Semitism in the council last week “was even worse than his report” on the anti-Jewish sentiments in the ranks of the polish Army. Dr. Ignacy Schwarzbart, the second Jewish member of the Council, abstained from voting for additional credits in a similar demonstration against Gen. Kukiel’s statement. The motion for granting the government additional credits was adopted with Szerer casting the only vote against it.
