Polish antisemitism, which is called into existence by the activities of the Jews, is nothing more than self-defence against Jewish encroachment, its aim being to enable the Polish people to become again a normal social organism, with control over its own creative life, its various activities, its civilisation, and its State, the antisemitic daily “Gazeta Warszawska”, the organ of the National Democratic Party, says in an article, protesting against the assurances given by the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Colonel Josef Bek, in his interview with Mr. Jacob Landau, the Managing Director of the J.T.A. (given in the J.T.A. Bulletin of the 1st. inst.).

Does Colonel Bek, in speaking of putting down antisemitism, both political and psychological, mean that he intends to suppress this movement for Polish self-expression and self-domination, the paper asks.

Colonel Bek’s promise that the Government will take measures to improve the Jewish economic position, is also resented by the “Gazeta Warszawska”, which asks why the Jews should be the only privileged section of the population to enjoy the supervision and benevolent care of the Government to improve their economic position. Colonel Bek’s statements, the paper concludes, rouse serious concern regarding the further course of action of the Polish Government in respect to the Jewish question.
